By reaching triple digits at Edgbaston, Gill joined an elite list. He’s now only the second Indian captain after Virat Kohli to score a Test century at this venue. Kohli had achieved the feat in 2018 during a memorable battle with James Anderson and co.

Yashasvi Jaiswal missed a well-deserved century
At the other end, Yashasvi Jaiswal looked all set for another century. After his ton at Leeds, he was batting freely again, hitting 13 boundaries and racing to 87 off 107 balls. But just when it looked like he’d repeat the magic, Ben Stokes got the better of him.
It was a short and wide ball that Yashasvi tried to cut, but he only managed to edge it to the keeper, Jamie Smith. A golden opportunity missed, just 13 runs short of back-to-back tons.
