After years of speculation and growing anticipation, Maruti Suzuki has officially pulled the wraps off its first all-electric SUV — the e-Vitara. Unveiled earlier this year at the Bharat Mobility Auto Expo 2025, the e-Vitara marks a significant milestone for the automaker as it steps into the EV space, not just in India, but on a global stage.

Production is set to commence shortly at the company’s Gujarat facility, with plans already in motion to export the e-Vitara to over 100 countries — including key markets like Europe and Japan. For Indian roads, the e-Vitara is slated to arrive on September 3, 2025, making it Maruti Suzuki’s very first fully electric model in the domestic market.

Flagship Status in a Crowded Segment

The e-Vitara isn’t just another EV — it’s being positioned as a premium flagship SUV in Maruti Suzuki’s lineup. When it launches, it will go head-to-head with some big names in the mid-size EV category, including the Hyundai Creta EV, Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV, and the Mahindra BE.06.

Built from the ground up on Suzuki’s new HEARTECT-e skateboard platform, the e-Vitara represents a fresh design direction for the brand. It maintains a muscular SUV stance, with design elements carried over from the previously showcased eVX concept. Expect sleek single-pod headlamps, signature wraparound LED tail lights, sharp body lines, and 18- or 19-inch alloy wheels for that added presence.

Performance & Range: Two Battery Options, Multiple Drive Modes

Maruti Suzuki will offer the e-Vitara with two battery pack options — a 49 kWh and a 61 kWh unit — both sourced from Chinese EV giant BYD.

  • 49 kWh variant: Single-motor, front-wheel drive setup producing 149 hp and 189 Nm of torque.

    • Claimed Range: Up to 344 km (WLTP).

  • 61 kWh variant (FWD): Produces 171 hp and 189 Nm.

    • Claimed Range: Around 426 km (WLTP).

  • 61 kWh variant (AWD): Dual-motor setup, with 184 hp combined and a punchier 300 Nm of torque.

    • Claimed Range: Around 395 km (WLTP).

This range flexibility, along with Eco, Normal, Sport, and Snow drive modes, as well as one-pedal driving and regenerative braking, gives users a highly adaptable driving experience whether in the city or on long trips.

Charging Options: Slow, Fast & Superfast Covered

To cater to different usage needs, the e-Vitara supports multiple charging setups:

  • Standard AC wall charging for overnight top-ups.

  • 7 kW and 11 kW fast AC home/work chargers for quicker daily recharges.

  • DC fast charging compatibility, perfect for topping up in under an hour at public charging stations.

Inside the Cabin: High-Tech Meets Comfort

The e-Vitara’s interior gets a modern, premium treatment, including a dual-screen layout, two-spoke steering wheel, and a floating 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster paired with a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Other highlights include:

  • Panoramic sunroof

  • Ventilated front seats

  • Wireless phone charger

  • Multi-color ambient lighting

  • Infinity by Harman sound system

  • Sliding, reclining, 60:40 split rear seats

  • Single-zone climate control with PM 2.5 air filter

  • 10-way power adjustable driver’s seat

Top-Tier Safety Tech

Safety is a priority for Maruti Suzuki with the e-Vitara. The SUV will feature:

  • Level 2 ADAS suite (adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, etc.)

  • Seven airbags

  • 360-degree camera

  • Blind spot monitoring

  • Rear disc brakes

  • Front and rear parking sensors

  • Tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS)

  • Electronic parking brake with auto-hold

  • Acoustic Vehicle Alert System (AVAS) for pedestrian safety

Design, Dimensions & Colours

Measuring 4,275 mm in length, 1,800 mm in width, and standing 1,635 mm tall with a 2,700 mm wheelbase, the e-Vitara strikes a well-balanced profile. It boasts a 180 mm ground clearance and weighs between 1,702 to 1,899 kg, depending on the variant.

The SUV will be available in 10 different paint options, including:

  • Six monotone shades: Nexa Blue, Splendid Silver, Arctic White, Grandeur Grey, Bluish Black, and Opulent Red

  • Four dual-tone options: Black roof paired with Arctic White, Land Breeze Green, Splendid Silver, or Opulent Red

Expected Pricing

Though official pricing hasn’t been announced, it’s expected that the India-spec e-Vitara will be more affordable than its UK counterpart, which starts at £29,999 (approx. ₹35 lakh). A starting price range of ₹25–30 lakh (ex-showroom) in India would be competitive, especially given the features and range offered.

What Else is Coming from Maruti Suzuki?

Alongside the e-Vitara, Maruti is also working on a new mini SUV, internally referred to as the Hustler. This micro SUV will be designed with compact proportions — just under 3.3 meters long — and a rugged, boxy aesthetic. It’s expected to rival models like the Tata Punch and Hyundai Exter.

The Hustler may come equipped with a 660cc engine in both naturally aspirated and turbocharged forms (48 hp and 64 hp respectively), likely paired with a CVT gearbox and optional all-wheel drive.

Final Thoughts

With the e-Vitara, Maruti Suzuki is entering the EV race with a serious contender that combines premium styling, modern features, practical range options, and safety-first engineering. If priced right, this SUV could reshape the EV landscape in India and help Maruti Suzuki transition smoothly into the era of electric mobility.
